Treatment is now available for some of the most common erectile dysfunction (ED) symptoms you’re experiencing when you don’t have a partner.
While some medications may temporarily improve sex for a few minutes, others can take that to weeks or even months to fully improve.
If you’re experiencing ED, you may wonder, “How long can this take?” Or can I try it?
The answer to that question is up for your doctor to decide.
“It can take four weeks to see the effects of a four-week course of oral sildenafil,” says, an orthopedic physician at, a private practice that treats about 30,000 men across the United States with erectile dysfunction.
Sildenafil is a prescription medication that’s been approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration for treating erectile dysfunction, but it’s only now being studied for possible use in men. In clinical trials, sildenafil was found to be as effective as Viagra and Cialis, and the effects were stronger than taking Viagra, the FDA says.
But in some cases, the effects of sildenafil aren’t good enough to treat erectile dysfunction, or to even treat other problems.
“Sildenafil is a prescription medication for erectile dysfunction, but it’s only now being studied for possible use in men,” says, orthopedic surgeon and physician at, a private practice in San Antonio, Texas. “It’s not FDA approved for use in men.”
Sildenafil comes in three different strengths: 25 milligrams, 50 milligrams, and 100 milligrams. It can be taken either with or without food.
Most men will experience only mild ED symptoms at 50 milligrams, but some may find that the dose is too high or too low. Some men report having a hard time getting and keeping an erection strong enough for sex.
Sildenafil also comes in other strengths: 50 milligrams, 100 milligrams, and 150 milligrams. If you take more than one dose per day, your doctor may try to adjust the dose to see what works best for you.
“Sildenafil is generally considered safe when used as prescribed,” says, orthopedic surgeon and physician at, who’s treating ED with a variety of medications, including tadalafil, vardenafil, and avanafil. “However, the FDA has not approved sildenafil for use in men with ED.”
Sildenafil is only FDA-approved for treating ED in men. Doctors generally prescribe it off-label for other conditions, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). But in clinical studies, patients with ED were more likely to report having trouble getting an erection when taking the medication.
If you’re treating ED with a drug called tadalafil or vardenafil, you may want to talk with your doctor first.
“Tadalafil has a longer half-life than other PDE5 inhibitors, so it takes longer for a drug to take effect,” says, orthopedic surgeon and physician at, a private practice in San Antonio that treats about 15,000 men with ED. “It also has a higher likelihood of causing drowsiness.”
Tadalafil is available as a generic drug, and it’s sold under the brand names,, and.
The FDA also doesn’t approve sildenafil for use in men with BPH, but doctors typically prescribe it off-label for ED, including treating BPH.
“We’re not seeing that for BPH in men,” says Dr. Michael J. Anderson, an orthopedic surgeon and urologist at the, a private practice in San Antonio, Texas.
He says he’s treating ED with a combination of sildenafil and Tadalafil, with each working in ways that can cause ED symptoms.
The combination is used to treat ED in men, says Dr. Anderson, who specializes in sexual medicine.
“Tadalafil has been shown to be effective for some men with ED,” he says. “The combination of tadalafil and sildenafil is effective for most men.

A new study shows that Viagra can be used to treat impotence.
The researchers at the University of Rochester studied how men taking the drug could be more sexually active, and whether this change would cause more adverse effects.
In the study, men taking Viagra reported higher sexual satisfaction after taking the drug, a finding that was not statistically significant.
A total of 669 men in the study were given two doses of the drug, and the average score was 3.9, or 0.9 per cent of the sample. The results showed that men who took Viagra were more likely to have sex on average after they took the drug, but that the overall number was much lower.
The study, which was published in theJournal of Sexual Medicine, examined the effect of the drug on the sexual satisfaction and the likelihood of having sex.
The study, published in the, showed that Viagra was more likely to be prescribed for women than men. A statistically significant difference was found for the overall number of satisfying sexual events, which was significantly higher after the drug.
The results showed that a higher dose of Viagra was associated with a higher incidence of sexual dysfunction, especially for women, compared to men taking other medications.
The study also found that men who took the drug had a significantly higher number of adverse effects, which can affect their sexual health. The men taking the drug had a higher incidence of adverse effects compared to men taking other medications.
“This study has important implications for patients and physicians who are seeking to improve their sexual health,” said Dr. John P. Moller, M. D., director of the Rochester Sexual Medicine Clinic and co-director of the study.
“The increased sexual satisfaction and improved sexual function associated with Viagra has implications for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and related disorders,” he said.
Dr. P. K. Sorensen, M. D., associate professor and director of the department of urology at the University of Minnesota, said he was not surprised at the results, but the study was the first to look at a drug that is safe and effective.
“Our findings suggest that taking Viagra could be a potentially useful therapy for men with ED, especially for those who are looking for a more effective alternative to Viagra,” Sorensen said.
“Our findings provide a clear evidence that Viagra is safe and effective and that it is safe and effective for most men with ED.”

But I was also excited to have a chance to get a better experience with the little blue pill. And I’ve never been more than a kid.
I’ve had great experiences with the little blue pill, and I’m sure my parents and grandparents will always remember my story.
But this month I was on a visit to a couple of different clinics, and I wondered whether there was a better way to get a prescription for Viagra.
I went in with a few friends, and they both came back with some Viagra samples, and I went into the clinic in a matter of minutes. It was a very quiet room.
I got a little blue pill that didn’t work. I decided to ask my doctor if it was safe. The doctor was very nice and helpful, and told me that I have some Viagra. I said I’d try it.
I then asked the doctor if it was safe to take. He said it wasn’t safe, and he told me to take it if I had something that wasn’t working. It was very, very, very safe. I also told my doctor that I was pregnant. So the doctor went and gave me Viagra.

And it didn’t matter whether I had Viagra or not, but I decided to ask my doctor if it was safe to take it.
